![]() My wife and I have been to Yellowstone three times and spent around ten weeks in the park and we can't wait to go again, but this blu ray does not make a very good advertisement for the most incredible National Park in America ! However, I can only give this blu ray two out of five as I think the picture quality was very good, the sound was boring except the Native Indian drums which we liked, and the fact it only cost £10. Our BBC filmed Yellowstone a few years ago in glorious HD and they made a fabulous job of it, definitely, five out of five to them. It needed more scenery and far more animals. My grand children will get bored watching that. The first twenty five minutes show mud pots and the crystalline terraces at mammoth, in close up and for far too long. On a sunny day with no wind and the reflections of mountains in the background it looks spectacular ! We went there during May when it still had a thick layer of ice on that was starting to break up and it looked amazing. The filming of Yellowstone Lake was done on an overcast and windy day which made it look ordinary. Surely, if you are going to film the most beautiful National Park in America then you would pick your days. What about the top predator, the wolves ? Coyotes, marmots, mule deer, etc. The only animals in the film are this one family of black bears, bison, elk and pronghorn. Grizzly,s have long claws for digging ground squirrels and roots not for climbing whereas a Black bear has shorter and sharper claws made for climbing. There is no sign of a hump on its back but more importantly that the bear and her cubs almost run up a tree. We also believe that the bear that is shown in the film and said by the commentator to be a grizzly is in fact a Black bear. The commentator States early in the film that Yellowstone is situated in the North east corner of Wyoming, but even us coming from England know that Yellowstone is in the North WEST corner of Wyoming, typical schoolboy error ! Very disappointed ! Having waited for nearly a year for this blu ray to arrive, my wife and I find it very poorly made and it contains several errors. Seems like the creators were looking at an easy cash grab, while deciding to at least shoot in 4k, although that's a small part in making a good presentation. This is not on par with BBC, Discovery, or other nature channels, but they are asking the same kind of prices. It's a decent diversion if it ever comes down in price to oh, say, $5 - $8, but at $14 it's asking too much for the little effort that was put into it. Overall, this is a somewhat pretty BluRay that was shot in 4k and downsampled to 1080p HD. ![]() This presentation really lacks the majestic scale of Yellowstone, but there are some exceptions as stated above. C'mon, show us one of the most amazing parks in existence, not close-ups of pine cones and water splashing. There are too many close-up shots of rivers flowing and lakes lapping water. The music has a native American flair, which I like, but is repetitive and almost too calming. It feels like the editor didn't have enough footage to fill an hour, or was just lazy. Very slow pacing, which is okay in a nature presentation, but this is a little too slow for my taste. The narration sounds okay and is somewhat informative.ĬONS: This BluRay may put you to sleep. There are some up close and personal shots of wildlife, which is nice- but those are the only appropriate close-ups (see below). 99% of the shots are in focus, and the coloring is decent, although the blacks and whites have minor color casts in a few shots. will go into my bookcase, and probably never viewed again!įirst let's talk about the PROS: Some of the shots are great and show off pretty areas of the park, like lower falls. Tried to give this 2.5 stars, but ended with 3. The bright spot is the cover of the Blu-ray case. The Hawaii that I remember (Been there 6 times), was more lit up, and not so sombre. One video shot - big Black space during panning? Several other shots with obvious judder.ĭid learn some new things re history, and current status.Īppears they tried to avoid civilization where ever possible - hence probably why all of the other 6 inhabitable islands were left out. Narrator - cut off several times that sentences weren't completed. Not much else seen of this Island.īackground music - Hawaiian in context - Nope! Mentioned about how it ran into the ocean with lots of steam - no video of it. They didn't!ġ/2 Kaui - 30% of which is ocean crashing against the shore, the balance, the landscape, fauna, and Island Goose (repeated several times!)ġ/2 Big Island - 85% Lava Fields - towards the end actually got to see some real lava. This Blu-ray took a long time to come out - thought that there were issues they were fixing.
